Gatwick thief has jail term cut
11.10.09
A Gatwick Airport worker who stole passenger's bags will be released from prison a month early after successfully appealing his sentence, the Crawley news reports. Jean Lindsay Floriman, 35, of Johnson Walk, Tilgate, was jailed for 7 months at Lewes Crown Court last month after admitting two counts of theft. But appeal court judges have ruled his jail term should be cut by a month.
The Mauritian national was working at Gatwick Airport when he was caught with a passenger's bag stashed in his rubbish trolley. He claimed he had been given the bag, but when his home was searched, a passport and driving licence belonging to another Gatwick theft victim were found.
Mr Floriman claimed he had found the items and had been trying to contact the owner to hand back the property. But he later admitted two counts of theft. Last week, after considering an appeal by his lawyers, Lord Justice Hooper, Mr Justice Underhill and Mr Justice Keith, sitting at the Court of Appeal, reduced the sentence by a month.
