Mother and daughter charged over Gatwick cocaine find

A mother and daughter have been charged with trying to smuggle 20 kilos of cocaine worth around £800,000 into the UK through Gatwick Airport. Sandra Grey, 44, and Jamaican resident Kerene Hayles, 22, were arrested by officers after arriving at the airport on a flight from Montego Bay in Jamaica on Sunday.
According to a spokesman for the UK Border Agency around 20 kilos of the Class A drug were found hidden in toiletries inside suitcases. Ms Grey, from Plaistow, east London, and her daughter were remanded in custody by Crawley magistrates. They will next appear in court on May 18 charged with attempting to import a Class A substance.
