Gatwick passengers up 1.4%
11.04.11
Gatwick Airport saw its passenger numbers rise by 1.4% to 2.4 million in March, although it was affected by the later Easter this year. European Scheduled passengers were up 11.3% and domestic traffic up 0.1%, but European Charter passengers were down 18.8%, North Atlantic passengers down 3.2% and other long haul passengers down 8.5%.
In the 12 months to March Gatwick had 2.3% fewer passengers than the previous year (31.6 million). It blamed the fall on disruption following the eruption of the Icelandic volcano, plus the impact of European air traffic control strikes and snow. Gatwick also said it would benefit from a boost next month, as the Easter holiday period is later this year.
