Gatwick passengers up 2.3%

An increase in passengers travelling on European scheduled flights helped boost total passenger numbers using Gatwick by 2.3% to 2.1 million in February. An additional 46,600 passengers used the airport compared with the same month last year.
European schedules passengers were up 9.7%, but European charter passengers dropped by 10.2%, North Atlantic passengers were down by 6.6%, other long-haul passengers by 4.4% and Irish passengers by 0.6%.
Traffic during the February school half-term break increased by 4% with holidaymakers travelling to destinations including Dubai, Malaga, Tenerife, Geneva and Grenoble. Average load factors increased from 74.8% to 75.8% year on year. Cargo was down 15.1%.
In the year to the end of February passengers were down 2.2% to 31.6m on air transport movements down 3.8%. Cargo was up 33.6%.
