Monarch has made more than £1 million in online sales using PayPal's secure payments option, it has announced. The service allows people to pay for flights online as well as protecting their transactions and personal information.
The airline became the first in Europe to offer its customers the option to pay for flights via PayPal when it was introduced in October. It will accept PayPal payments for online flight bookings, to make changes to bookings, to upgrade or add seats, and pay for hold baggage.
PayPal merchant services manager Cameron McLean said: ‘Online shopping amongst UK adults has increased by 157% in the last 5 years with 28 million adults actively transacting on the cyber high street and buying flights has never been easier or more secure.'
Monarch scheduled services managing director Liz Savage said: ‘We are delighted to have reached £1 million-worth of sales so quickly through our association with PayPal. We are still the only European airline to offer the PayPal payment option and since launch back in October 2007 our sales have grown significantly.’
