WWII grenade found at Gatwick
10.08.11
A World War II hand grenade was found by workers digging near Gatwick Airport yesterday. Bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion on the device close to the railway station at the airport.
The device was discovered by UK Power Networks staff just after 13:00. An airport spokeswoman said: ‘Flights were not allowed to take off or land for about 10 to 15 minutes, so it did not cause major disruption.' Train services were also halted.
