Campaigners slam MPs Gatwick runway call

Campaigners have attacked the Transport Select Committee after it said ministers should look again at whether a second runway should be built at Gatwick after a prohibition on the scheme expires in 2019. The Gatwick Area Conservation Campaign (GACC) slated the report this week of the MPs as being ‘out of touch with reality.’
Speaking after the Committee said a Heathrow third runway should go ahead and more thought should be given to building a second runway at Gatwick instead of at Stansted, GACC chairman Brendon Sewill said: ‘In the week of Copenhagen [climate change summit], their proposal for two new runways - at Heathrow and Gatwick - is living in a dream world.’
