Firemen rescue Gatwick Hotel guest who fell in ditch
08.05.09
Firefighters hunted in the dark for a man who fell in a ditch whilst returning to a Gatwick hotel from the pub on Thursday night, the Worthing Herald reports. The man was rescued using a length of rope after he took a tumble into the 15-foot deep trench near the Mercure Hotel Gatwick after returning from the Six Bells soon after 23:30.
The man, reported to be a guest at the Mercure, contacted the hotel on his mobile phone, and staff then called in Horley firefighters to join the search. A fire service spokesman told the newspaper: ‘We were called out at 23:56 on Thursday night to a report of a person trapped in a ditch. He was walking to the hotel and slipped down into the ditch. He couldn't get himself out, and the firemen used a line to pull him out. He was most grateful.'
