Austria add ‘environmental air tax’

Austria has become the latest country to introduce a 'environmental tax' on the airline industry. Its new Ecological Air Travel Levy is similar to Air Passenger Duty in the UK and Germany’s new tax scheme due to be effective January 1 next year.
Passengers taking flights from Austria will be charged €8 for European flights and €40 for long haul flights. Airlines have slammed the Austrian Government and said they will pass the tax on to passengers.
