‘Absurd’ APD bandings to go under Tories
07.11.09
A Conservative government would abolish ‘absurd’ new bandings for air passenger duty (APD) that make it more expensive to fly to the US west coast than the Caribbean. Tory shadow transport minister Julian Brazier made the pledge as TUI Travel chief Peter Long lead calls for regulatory change at a Parliamentary reception.
Responding to a call from the aviation industry for a thorough review of APD, Mr Brazier said that whatever tax is employed if the Tories gain power, the ‘absurd capital cities rule’ banding would be abolished. His statements came after current transport minister Paul Clark insisted that the Government had no plans to revisit APD.
