Gatwick closed by snow
06.01.10
Heavy snowfall overnight has forced Gatwick Airport to close and caused disruption at other UK airports today. All inbound and outbound flights were suspended at the airport from about 2130 yesterday, with flights diverted to other airports. A spokeswoman said it hoped to resume services from about 11:00.
In a statement Gatwick said: ‘We are working closely with our airline and business partners to reopen the runway as soon as it is safe to do so. Passengers travelling from Gatwick in the next 24 hours should contact their airline for the latest flight information.'
Bristol, Exeter and Cardiff airports were also closed this morning, with all due to re-open later today as snow is cleared from runways. However, Bristol was only expected to open at noon today. Heathrow, Birmingham, Luton and Southampton remained open but were experiencing long delays and cancellations.
