TAP strike confirmed
04.06.09
TAP Portugal flights from Gatwick Airport are facing severe disruption from today after a spokeswoman from the airline confirmed that a series of staff strikes would go ahead. Pilots from Portugalia, a subsidiary of TAP, are planning a number of walkouts from today until June 13 in a dispute over pay and conditions. Around 150 of TAPs 800 pilots are contracted to Portugalia.
All flights between Gatwick and Porto are likely to be cancelled, while domestic flights within Portugal will also be hit by cancellations and delays. TAP services from Heathrow and flights between Gatwick and Madeira will not be affected.
Passengers planning to travel between Gatwick and Porto will be offered alternative routes, flying via Heathrow or Lisbon. They are also able to re-arrange their flights without charge. Affected passengers should visit the TAP website (www.flytap.com), call TAP on 0845 601 0932 or contact their travel agent.
