Conservative shadow minister Mike Penning discovered the total bill for airport lounge costs has now topped £1,273,000. He said: ‘The number of bookings is phenomenal. The taxpayer deserves to know why this is happening. It raises serious questions over whether this is good value for money.’
A spokesman for the Foreign Office told the newspaper that it needed the suites for departing Cabinet ministers with their officials, arriving heads of state, and the Royal Family.
