Gatwick reopens, other UK airports still closed
03.12.10
The easing of snowfall has allowed Gatwick Airport to reopen this morning, although major delays and cancellations are expected to continue to cause problems for travellers, with planes out of position. However, other UK airports are still closed.
A statement on the Gatwick website said: ‘Our advice to passengers remains - do not travel to the airport without first checking with your airline to make sure that your flight is departing today. Passengers should expect delays and cancellations and it is likely to take a few days before flight schedules return to normal. Train services to and from the airport continue to be limited and road networks are likely to remain severely affected by the weather.’
Several other UK airports are still closed this morning. Guernsey Airport will be closed until around midday; Humberside Airport until at least 09:30, Southampton and Robin Hood airports until at least midday and Bournemouth Airport has no estimated re-opening time available. Even those airports that have remained open - including Heathrow and Stansted - are suffering some delays and cancellations. As at Gatwick, passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest information before travelling to airports.
