Bird strike and storm hit Aer Lingus Gatwick flight
01.07.11
An Aer Lingus plane travelling from Gatwick to Knock earlier this week had to divert to Heathrow airport in heavy thunderstorms after suffering a bird strike, Ireland’s Midwest Radio reports.
The Airbus A320 jet was bound for knock on Tuesday after departing from Gatwick at 13:14, but suffered a bird strike shortly after takeoff. However, the control tower at Gatwick was struck by lightening and, due to the heavy thunderstorms, the pilot decided to divert to Heathrow and landed safety.
The 99 passengers on board were accomodated on flights from Heathrow to Shannon and Dublin, and then taken by road to Knock.
