Pilot crashes plane after forgetting to unplug power unit
28.02.08
A pilot badly damaged a Fokker twin-propeller cargo plane by crashing it into ground crew's equipment, the Daily Record reports. He hadn't realised the portable power unit was still hooked up to his aircraft at Edinburgh Airport.
The newspaper reports that two men were inside its cab of the power unit when the plane's propeller smashed through their vehicle. The impact ripped off the power unit's cover and flung it more than 20 yards across the tarmac, tore it apart from its tractor unit, destroyed the propeller and ripped the engine off the wing.
Pieces of the propeller sliced through the rear of the tractor cab, miraculously missing the men inside. No one was injured, but one person was treated for shock.
The Fokker aircraft, which had been due to fly to Coventry earlier this month, was yesterday at Edinburgh airport being repaired. The Air Accident Investigation Bureau and the British Airport Authority are holding inquiries in to the incident.
