Edinburgh Airport troops charity drive
27.10.08
Passengers, cabin crew and staff at Edinburgh Airport have donated more than £1000 and dozens of parcels for British troops deployed abroad, as part of a charity drive organised by an airport security officer, the Evening News reports.
The three-day collection at Edinburgh Airport was organised by a former serviceman, BAA security officer John Robertson. A total of £1609 has been collected for Parcels4Troops, a charity that has been sending parcels to troops in Iraq since the first Gulf War and now also ships goods to Afghanistan.
In addition to the cash donations, dozens of items for inclusion in packages have been collected at the airport's terminal, including more than 100 boxes of noodles and 100 toothbrushes. BAA, the operator of Edinburgh Airport, has also contributed £500 towards the collection.
