Flyglobespan on course for profit
26.09.08
Flyglobespan is set to return to profit this year despite record fuel costs and a weakening economic climate, the Daily Record reports. Founder and chairman Tom Dalrymple and new chief executive Rick Green told the newspaper the airline has had a good - if not exceptional - year.
With six weeks until the end of the summer season, the airline's planes are already 90 percent full on average, with Mr Green is confident that the final figure will hit 94 percent.
He told the newspaper: ‘We finished last year on 90 percent, so we are already at last year's number with six weeks to go - a four percent improvement on load factor that is already industry-leading. Ryanair and easy Jet eulogise about 82s and 83s and here we are probably going to achieve 94 percent for the season.’
Mr Dalrymple said the airline had got over last year's ‘blip’ when they were dogged by engine problems on two Iceland Air aircraft which resulted in long delays for passengers. He said: ‘Last year's losses are a thing of the past and I think we will certainly be trading in the black this year.’
Following the collapse of a number of airlines around the world, the airline is looking to pick up some modern aircraft at bargain prices. Mr Dalrymple said: ‘There is some new equipment out there at very, soft prices so our fleet might increase by a unit or two.’
