Edinburgh flight delayed over ‘joke’
24.04.08
A young Spanish man spread panic among 147 passengers on board an Edinburgh Airport bound holiday jet after being overheard saying: ‘We are all going to die today.’ The Flyglobespan flight was at the head of the runway waiting to take-off from Malaga on Tuesday when the 25-year-old was overheard making the 'joke' to his girlfriend, who was afraid of flying.
After being alerted by passengers, air stewards informed the plane's captain, who returned to the terminal where the man was questioned by police. He apologised, said it was a joke and was allowed to return to the plane on the condition he kept quiet during the rest of flight.
Upon arriving in Edinburgh he was also warned over his conduct by police at the airport. A spokesman for flyglobespan confirmed that the incident had been a ‘stupid and foolish’ remark by the passenger, rather than a terrorist threat.
