Demonstration at Edinburgh Airport
23.08.08
A demonstration at Edinburgh Airport against repression in Zapatistas Autonomous Communities in Chiapas, Mexico, took place today. The demonstration was part of 'a joined journey of protest' at different airports in Europe (Hamburg and Frankfurt Airports among others).
According to a press release, the aim of the demonstration was to 'let travellers know about the real situation in the South-East of Mexico, particularly at Chiapas and Oaxaca states, where human rights violations are a constant and occur every day against Zapatistas Autonomous Communities and Indigenous Communities in general.'
The demonstrators were evicted from the airport by police after 15 minutes. For more information on the demonstration visit EdinChiapas Solidarity Group website at http://www.edinchiapas.org.uk.
