Gatwick and Manchester Airport owners interested in Edinburgh
22.10.11
The sale of Edinburgh Airport by BAA is attracting interest from Gatwick and London City airport owner Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) and from Manchester Airports Group (MAG), Bloomberg reports. It says 'GIP knows Edinburgh well and is interested in a purchase, according to a person familiar with its strategy'. A spokesman for MAG said that it will look at an acquisition that would deliver investor value.
In addition to the two UK airport operators, overseas companies are also reported to have expressed an interest. These include Aeroports de Paris, the operator of Paris Charles de Gaulle, Europe’s busiest airport after Heathrow. Fraport AG, owner of Frankfurt airport, Europe's third biggest airport, also wants to add to its portfolio, a person familiar with the company told Bloomberg.
