easyJet welcomes Edinburgh Airport sale decision
22.10.11
easyJet has welcomed the announcement that BAA plans to sell Edinburgh Airport. The airport will be formally offered for sale early next year, with a view to agreeing a deal by the summer.
BAA chief executive Colin Matthews described Edinburgh as 'a great airport with a great team and a great future' and said the company would be sorry to see it go. He added that BAA had decided to sell Edinburgh over Glasgow because the former is likely to be more attractive to bidders. Press reports suggest it could raise £700m - £1bn.
Hugh Aitken, easyJet's commercial manager for Scotland, said the airline welcomed the announced and is looking forward to working with the new owners. He said: 'Edinburgh Airport is hugely important to easyJet's network. We firmly believe increased competition will improve both Edinburgh and Glasgow airports, to make travel easy and affordable.'
