Souter ‘planning Edinburgh Airport bid’
21.11.11
The founder of transport giant Stagecoach is planning to bid for Edinburgh Airport, the Sunday Times reported Sir Brian Souter, who was at Buckingham Palace on Friday to receive a knighthood, is considering the offer through his buyout vehicle Souter Investments, the newspaper said.
Sir Brian, who is still chief executive of the Perth-based business he founded in 1980, is said to be awaiting more detailed information about the airport and its finances before deciding whether to bid. However, any offer is likely to be made as part of a group. He is likely to face competition from the owner of Charles de Gaulle airport, the owner of Gatwick and City airports, and a number of private equity firms, including 3i. Several Scottish consortiums are also reported to be planning to bid.
