Man stopped at Edinburgh Airport with 13kgs of cannabis

A man has been arrested at Edinburgh Airport after trying to smuggle £53,000 of cannabis resin in to the UK after arriving on a flight from Delhi via Paris, the Evening News reports. Michael Richter, 53, who currently lives in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, was stopped by UK Border Agency (UKBA) officers when he arrived at airport yesterday. A search of his luggage revealed 13 kilos of the drug.
After questioning by HM Revenue & Customs officers, Mr Richter was charged today with the illegal importation of drugs. Colin Fraser, senior detection manger for UKBA, said: ‘UKBA and HMRC are committed to stamping out drug smuggling across Scotland. HMRC investigations are continuing.’
