SNP back Edinburgh Airport sale

The Scottish National Party has welcomed the Competition Commission recommendation that BAA be forced to sell Edinburgh Airport. SNP member for west Scotland Gil Paterson said that the sale should consider the interests of local residents and also be the end of BAA's self-regulation of its hubs in Scotland.
Mr Paterson said: 'BAA's ownership of Scotland's airports has restricted competition and held back our economy. We need real competition between the three lowland Scottish airports to ensure the best services, more direct international flights and competitive prices for business and tourism.'
Shirley-Anne Somerville, SNP member for the Lothians, said that Scotland's airports need direct international flights and investment, removing the need for local travellers to catch connecting services in London or Amsterdam.
