Edinburgh expects busy Christmas getaway

Around 145,000 travellers are set to jet out of Edinburgh Airport over the Christmas and new year period (weather permitting !), travel organisation ABTA said. Those seeking the sun are heading for destinations including Spain, Dubai, Turkey and Florid, whilst Geneva is the most popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts.
ABTA said the busiest pre-Christmas days for travel this year are today and next Thursday. Around 1.5 million travellers are set to leave from Heathrow, 700,000 from Gatwick, 370,000 from Stansted, 323,000 from Manchester, 250,000 from Luton, 138,000 from Birmingham and 70,000 from Newcastle. In Scotland, a total of 101,000 travellers will take off from Glasgow and 48,000 from Aberdeen.
