Cars to race along Edinburgh Airport runway
18.09.09
About 50 cars are to descend on the secondary runway at Edinburgh Airport for a charity event which will see motorists reach speeds of up to 200mph. Race the Runway will see owners of Lamborghinis, Porches, Ferraris, Aston Martins and other cars test out how fast their vehicles can go. The airport will operate as normal during the event.
The event is the brainchild of Edinburgh Airport managing director Gordon Dewar, who is also the patron of the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice. A total of 48 people have bought the £250-a-head race tickets, with the money going to St Columba's Hospice in Edinburgh and the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow. Entrants can bring along spectators at £50 per head, but the event on 24 September is not open to the public.
