Edinburgh UK’s top airport
18.08.09
Edinburgh is the best performing UK airport this year, according to an independent review of passenger and cargo traffic. A review conducted by RDC Aviation (we assuming using CAA figures) recorded an overall drop in UK airport traffic for the first five months of the year of over 10 percent, with nearly 10 million fewer passengers than 2008. However, Edinburgh Airport recorded the lowest decrease at just three percent, representing just over 100,000 fewer passengers than 2008.
Domestic scheduled traffic within UK regions fell by over half a million passengers (11.7 percent) overall. However, flights into Edinburgh from Cardiff and Belfast saw a slight increase, while the new Bournemouth - Edinburgh route saw 37,645 people land in the Capital.
UK cargo in the January to May period decreased by almost 20 percent. Edinburgh recorded the UK's largest increase when measured in additional tonnes with 3,890 (64 percent) more than last year. However, this was from a low base.
