Edinburgh continues to top Glasgow as Scotland’s favourite

Edinburgh Airport was Scotland's busiest airport last month thanks to the launch of five new international routes to destinations in Italy, Germany, Cyprus and France. New figures from airport operator BAA show the Capital's gateway handled 724,154 passengers in April, down 0.2 percent, and in the year to the end of April 9.1 million passengers used Edinburgh Airport – a rise of 4.9 percent on the previous 12-month period.
Glasgow handled 644,200 passengers in April, down 0.6 percent on a year earlier, with 8.7m passengers in the 12 months to the end of April, down 2.2 percent. The slump has again been blamed on a continuing drop in charter traffic, which plummeted almost 13 percent last month.
Whereas at Edinburgh Airport, five new services to Pisa, Bremen, Frankfurt Hahn, Paphos and Nice all started during the month and performed well according to an its managing director, David Johnston. He said: ‘Edinburgh has never been so well served in terms of air links.'
‘The five most recent additions to our route network give passengers greater choice, whether flying on business or leisure. In total, 27 new services will start from Edinburgh this year to a variety of destinations.’
