12.11.08
A Mexican couple who were travelling with four children were arrested at Edinburgh Airport after a consignment of cocaine with an estimated street value of £800,000 was found during a luggage search yesterday. About 16kg of the drug was seized at the airport by police officers following the search carried out by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).
The consignment is the largest single recovery of cocaine in the Lothian and Borders Police area. HMRC said that the two adults were travelling with four children. Noe Isaias Romero Muchado, 40, and his wife, Erendidael Rudi Arrendondo Lechuga, 37, made no plea or declaration and were remanded in custody yesterday when they appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court yesterday. Both were accused of being concerned in the supply of the Class A drug. They had flown to Edinburgh from Mexico, via Paris.
