Edinburgh Airport campaign asks passengers to ‘lighten up’
09.11.08
Passengers at Edinburgh Airport are being urged to pack lighter luggage. The Unite union, which represents baggage handlers, says that carrying overweight luggage puts airport staff at risk of injury, as well as being bad for the environment and costing more in excess baggage charges.
The union's Steve Turner said: ‘The reality is that a bag can be lifted up to a dozen times on a journey.’ Unite's 'Lighten Up' campaign will be launched at the airport tomorrow (Monday).
