Scottish Government to question Edinburgh Airport drop-off fee
09.09.10
Members of the public have been invited to a debate in the Scottish Parliament this evening on the Edinburgh Airport drop-off charge, the Guardian reports. MSPs from every party, including SNP Minister for Transport Stewart Stevenson, are expected to be in attendance after Lothians MSP Gavin Brown gathered support across the political spectrum against the planned £1 charge. Edinburgh Airport has confirmed to newspaper that it too will be sending a representative to the 17:00 talks at Holyrood.
The airport's new managing director Kevin Brown insisted recently that BAA will press ahead with introducing the charge. Construction on the new drop off area is ongoing and scheduled to open next month, but he must regret the advance warning given on the charge. When Cardiff Airport announced a similar charge it gave less than a weeks notice, and the bad press surrounding its introduction died down very quickly. To announce it in July for an October implementation seems to have been a bad decision, even if Mr Brown can blame it on his predecessor.
