New security bollards for Edinburgh Airport
09.03.10
Steel-coated concrete bollards are being installed at Edinburgh Airport as part of a major upgrade of the area in front of the terminal. Work on the security measures will see a complete overhaul of the old forecourt, which was started on Monday with work to be completed in June, prior to the busy summer peak.
The work will also see the bus lane in front of the airport resurfaced. While a through lane will remain open, this means that no traffic will be able to stop in front of the terminal. All public bus services will be temporarily relocated to the coach park next to the main terminal, however, this coach park will also be moved during the work. The taxi drop-off area has already been relocated to a new permanent position.
The £3m project is part of a wider programme of investment and development at Edinburgh Airport, which will see a new security hall and upgraded departure lounge open later this year. Gordon Dewar, Edinburgh Airport's managing director, said: ‘I'd like to thank passengers in advance for their patience whilst we upgrade this important part of our airport.’
