Ryanair plan Edinburgh Airport expansion
09.02.10
Ryanair is set to announce further major expansion from Edinburgh Airport, The Scotsman reports. It says that the budget airline will unveil plans for a host of new routes from Edinburgh by basing a sixth aircraft at the airport.
It is also reported to be planning to open a second aircraft maintenance hangar at Prestwick Airport, where a sixth plane was based in December following the collapse of Scottish holiday airline Flyglobespan.
Ryanair already has 35 routes from Edinburgh, two years after operating just two. It also flies to 30 destinations from Prestwick. Its chief executive, Michael O'Leary, told aviation analysts last week: ‘(Edinburgh airport] have encouraged us to put more aircraft in there this summer.’
