BAA Scottish Airports all report growth

Scottish Airports had a record number of passengers flying abroad to the sun or going on winter city breaks last month. The latest figures released by BAA Scotland, who manage Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen airport, show that the number of passengers flying long-haul has increased to a new record for the time of year.
Overall passenger figures grew by 3.8% to 1,344,050 passengers at the three airports in January. Long haul flights to and from Scotland grew by 31% in January to 50,672, with Dubai as the most popular destination, followed by New York and Atlanta.
International passengers grew by 12.2%, with domestic flights down slightly due to the threat of industrial action on BA routes from Scotland to Heathrow and Gatwick.
Scotland's busiest airport in January was Edinburgh with 566,277 passengers, an increase of 2.5% on the previous year. In the year to January, the airport handled 8.6 million passengers, up 1.8%.
At Glasgow Airport passenger numbers rose 1.6% to 534,302, with long haul traffic up 23%. In the year to January, the airport handled 8.8 million passengers, an increase of 0.4% on the previous year.
Aberdeen Airport was the fastest growing of the airports, handling 243,471 passengers in January, a 12.7% rise. In the 12 months to January it handled 3.2 million passengers, a rise of 10.7%.
