Man is fined after drunken row at Edinburgh Airport

A man who was drunk on a flight from Belfast to Edinburgh and then caused a commotion at Edinburgh airport has been fined £500.
Kent Johnston, 39, had been drinking at a funeral in Belfast before boarding the 22:00 easyJet flight on June 16. When staff were forced to escort three drunken men off the plane, Johnston tried to intervene adding to the trouble, Edinburgh Sheriff Court was told.
The flight captain put his hand on Johnston's chest to stop him and ordered him back to his seat. Johnston was annoyed but did not react at the time.
However, when the flight landed and passengers were entering Edinburgh Airport an hour later, he began to shout and swear. He spotted an off-duty police officer who had been on the same flight and wrongly accused him - with his fists clenched and swearing aggressively - of assaulting him.
Police had already been alerted to his unruly behaviour and he was met by officers. A breath test showed he was well over the legal driving limit. The unemployed man, of Craigour Avenue, Edinburgh, pleaded guilty to being drunk on a plane, in breach of the Air Navigation Act, and causing a breach of the peace.
