Air France emergency at Edinburgh Airport
03.06.09
A full-scale emergency was declared at Edinburgh Airport last night after an Air France flight reported engine trouble. The plane, with 26 passengers and 6 crew on board, was due to fly to London City Airport but had been delayed from departing for an hour. Shortly after taking off, the pilot reported a 'clunking noise' from the engine.
The Dornier 7328 aircraft was forced to circle overhead having lifted off at 18:34 – 49 minutes late – before landing safety at 19:30. No reason was given for the delay, but we assume engine trouble.
Witnesses said a convoy of fire engines and ambulances were in attendance for what was described as a 'full emergency landing'. Police had shut off parts of Glasgow Road to aid the arrival of the emergency vehicles.
An Edinburgh Airport spokesman said: ‘The crew reported a rough running engine and a full emergency was declared. The aircraft landed safely and a full investigation is under way. The passengers have been allocated seats on a flight operated by Bmi to Heathrow and transport will be laid on to take passengers to London City.’
