Plane problems see passengers stranded in Canaries for two days
30.10.11
Hundreds of British holidaymakers were stranded in the Canary Islands for two days because of faulty planes, the Mirror reports. The half-term nightmare for the 220 passengers began when a fuel leak was discovered on their Thomas Cook plane - due to fly them back to East Midlands Airport - on Thursday night.
After waiting on board for two hours, they were sent back to their hotels on Lanzarote, in the Canaries. A replacement flight on Friday was also cancelled due to a ‘technical fault’ with the plane. The furious passengers staged a sit-in at the terminal – but were threatened with arrest and eventually agreed to return to the hotels for a second night.
The holidaymakers were finally put on a plane yesterday – but even that was an hour late taking off. It was due to land late last night.
