Passengers up 5% at East Midlands Airport
30.07.08
East Midlands Airport has reported a rise in the number of passengers. The airport's latest figures show 563,150 people passed thought the terminal in June - a 5% increase on the same month last year.
Non-EU destinations saw the biggest increase in passengers, up 17%, suggesting holidaymakers are heading for more bargain holidays in countries outside the eurozone, such as Turkey.
Penny Coates, the airport's managing director, said: ‘We're delighted to have exceeded half a million passengers for the second month in a row and to have enjoyed continued growth in passenger figures for the ninth successive quarter.'
East Midlands Airport celebrated the announcement of three new routes with Ryanair this month, with flights to Faro, Fuerteventura and Prague starting at the end of October 2008.
