Passenger arrested at East Midlands Airport over bomb claim

A woman was arrested at East Midlands Airport yesterday following a security alert on a flight from Greece. The passenger, who was travelling on an Excel Airways flight from Heraklion to the airport was overheard saying she had a bomb in her bag.
The plane was met by police when it landed shortly before 15:00 and the woman was arrested - but not under anti-terror legislation. A search of the plane was also carried out.
A spokesman for East Midlands Airport said the pilots had radioed ahead and emergency services were called out strictly as a precautionary measure. He added: 'The safety and security of passengers, staff and all airport users is our primary concern.'
