22.08.07
Figures released by East Midlands Airport show that passenger numbers continued to grow in July. The airport handled f 574,327 passengers last month, an increase of 11.7% on July 2006 (514,216). This is the seventh consecutive month showing continued growth at the airport.
Year to date (January to July) passenger numbers were up by 11.7% (2,012,289) from the same time last year (1,801,103). European hot spot, Palma remains the regions favourite European getaway destination with over 37,000 passengers (which could be the reason why easyJet announced that it will launch flights on the route), closely followed by Alicante (26,000) and Dublin (25,000).
Penny Coates, Managing Director of East Midlands Airport said: 'The wet weather and school holidays have combined to boost passenger figures for the month of July. It is encouraging to see destinations closer to home such as Belfast and Edinburgh continuing to succeed as well as the favourite European routes such as Prague and Malaga.'
