New prayer room opens at East Midlands Airport
22.07.07
A new purpose built prayer room has been opened at East Midlands Airport. The new prayer room available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and it will be accessible to anybody who wishes to visit for worship, prayer or quiet reflection
To mark the opening a cairn was created, allowing people to place a stone around a larger rock as a sign of prayer or remembrance. The opening of the new facility was also celebrated by a short service led by Reverend Roy Monks and the airport chaplaincy team.
Reverend Monks said: 'It is fantastic to have a purpose built prayer room with facilities for all. The new room is a wonderful place for quiet contemplation and a great satisfaction to have provided a calming place for worship for passengers, local businesses and employees on site. It is a great place for anyone who wants to drop in for some quiet time; it's a real sanctuary of peace.'
The prayer room, which has additional wash facilities to accommodate religious rights, is located in the airport's check-in hall and includes a separate space for private contemplation and the Chaplain's office.
