Traffic warning for East Midlands Airport
10.09.07
Passengers, visitors and staff travelling to or from East Midlands Airport this weekend are being urged to allow plenty of extra time for their journey, as thousands travel to the British Superbike Championships held at the adjoining Donnington Park.
Major roads and motorways leading to this venue are likely to be busy from today (Friday) until Sunday (September 23), with the final day particularly busy in the morning as spectators arrive and in the late afternoon as they leave.
The airport has worked with the organisers, Leicestershire Police, the Highways Agency and Leicestershire County Council to implement a traffic management system over the weekend in an attempt to minimise delays. The traffic plan is designed to make it easier for spectators to get into and out of Donington Park, and to reduce delays experienced by other road users in the area.
The traffic plan means that on Sunday (September 23) traffic travelling to the airport from the South west, M1 and A50 will be directed onto A453 west to Pegasus roundabout. In addition, access to East Midlands Airport from Melbourne Village along Melbourne Lane will follow a signed diversion route via Wilson and Breedon.
