East Midlands Airport adds new artwork to walking trail
20.08.11
East Midlands Airport has added a unique piece of local art to its 'airport trail' walk. Designed by community groups from the local area including Diseworth and Castle Donington, the piece of art is named ‘Trail of Life' and is the fourth piece to be added to the six mile walk in the last five years. It illustrates the concept of green environment, tranquility, travelling and getting to know people from around the world.
Produced by Derby based artist Zahir Shaikh, Trail of Life takes a spiral form and includes mosaic murals, designed by community groups from the local area; including Diseworth Heritage Group, Castle Donington WI, Castle Donington Rotary Club, Quilt Together Shepshed, Coleorton WI, Ruddington Wednesday Morning Club and the Swadlincote 50+ Forum.
Anna Thomson, Community Relations Manager East Midlands Airport said: ‘The new piece of art is really different to any of the existing pieces. The artwork is easily accessible and the trail is open to everyone. We feel that the latest piece really encompasses the airport's community sprit and we are incredibly pleased that so many people in the local area were involved.’
The trail offers visitors the chance to walk through woodland, grassland and wildflower meadows, with information boards explaining the wildlife in the area, as well as glimpses of bat boxes and hedgehog hotels. To book east midlands airport hotels or east midlands airport parking at the lowest price, click on these links to two great east midlands airport car parking and east midlands airport hotel price comparison pages.
