Possible summer travel delays at East Midlands Airport
20.04.07
East Midlands Airport has warned passengers taking flights this summer to be aware of forthcoming events at neighbouring Donington Park that could affect their journey times to and from the airport. People either heading for or leaving the airport face delays and being rerouted as Donington hosts a number of motorsport competitions throughout the summer.
Traffic management systems and temporary traffic lights are often put in place around the airport, on the A453 approach roads and near to Donington Park itself when major events take place at the motorsport track.
Key event dates over the summer are as follows:
British F3 and British GT Championships: April 21 and 22
Grand Prix Events EuroSeries: May 6 and 7
GP Live: May 18, 19 and 20
The British Motorcycle Grand Prix (Moto GP): June 22, 23 and 24
The British Touring Car Championship: July 14 and 15
World Motocross Grand Prix: August 24, 25 and 26
World Series by Renault: September 7, 8 and 9
Vintage Sports Car Club: September 15 and 16
The Bennetts British Superbike Championship: September 21, 22 and 23
East Midlands airport is recommending passengers allow plenty of time for travel during these events. Also, if people have booked airport parking they should ensure that they have sufficient time so they can both get to the parking facilities and transfer to the terminal via shuttle buses.
