East Midlands Airport wins award

East Midlands Airport has been voted the best regional airport in the UK by tour operators and travel agents. The airport topped a shortlist of nine, beating Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester and Birmingham, to take the award run by the Travel Weekly magazine.
It is the first time the regional Travel Weekly Globe Award has been given to an airport the size of East Midlands. Agents, tour operators, airlines and passenger call centres all voted in the award scheme.
Managing director of the airport, Penny Coates, said: 'We are absolutely delighted to have won the award, which has previously only been awarded to larger UK airports.'
