East Midlands Airport to install traffic surveillance system

East Midlands Airport is to install a traffic surveillance and monitoring system, Era Corporation has announced. The MSS system is a 'wide area multilateration and ADS-B surveillance solution', that will provide enhanced surveillance information for the airport's environmental management program, with the option to extend the use of the system to support air traffic control operations, both on the surface and in the approach area.
The airport has a strong track record of environmental responsibility, having become the first airport in the UK to be certified to the Environmental Standard ISO14001 in 2002 and recently being named the World's Leading Eco Friendly Airport. This latest project continues the airport's commitment to strong environmental management.
Jon Cox, Air Traffic Services Manager, East Midlands Airport, said: 'Era provides airport environment management solutions to many of the USA's largest airports, including in Atlanta, New York, Dallas and Washington as well as Edinburgh and Glasgow airports in Scotland.'
