East Midlands Airport growth requires road upgrade
15.11.09
Plans to treble the number of jobs supported by East Midlands Airport over the next 20 years make a scheme to upgrade the A453 vital, an inquiry has heard. The Highways Agency says major improvements are needed to the road if the airport's masterplan to increase the number of jobs supported by the airport from 9,100 people to 26,000 workers by 2030 is not to be hampered.
The employment figure includes staff employed directly by the airport and indirect jobs in the region, such as travel agencies. The statement was made last week as the Highways Agency concluded giving its opening evidence at a public inquiry into the £194m plan to dual the route between Nottingham and junction 24 of the M1.
