East Midlands Airport passengers up 20%

Passenger numbers at East Midlands Airport increased by more than 20% between January and May this year. According to new figures from the airport, more than 1.9 million people have passed through its terminal so far this year, compared with 1.6 million for the same period in 2006.
Popular European destinations for passengers departing in May included Palma, Alicante, Dublin and Malaga, with new routes to Cuba and the Dominican Republic being launched during the month.
Penny Coates, managing director at the airport, said: 'It's encouraging to see the continued growth of passengers choosing to fly from East Midlands, particularly to new routes such as Cuba as well as our popular destination to Palma.'
