Record year for East Midlands Airport

East Midlands Airport has said 2006 was its busiest year on record. Figures released by the airport show that more than 4.7m passengers passed through its doors during the year - a 12.8% increase from 2005.
2006 saw 4,728,366 passengers use the airport, compared to 4,191,680 in 2005. The month of December also saw a marked increase in passenger numbers - up 30% on a year earlier to 326,940 passengers. International scheduled traffic grew by 36%, domestic scheduled services grew by 20% and charter services grew by 24% in the month compare to 2005.
The airport, which changed its name to East Midlands Airport - Nottingham, Leicester, Derby in December, is looking forward to an even busier 2007, having already announced 14 new destinations in 2007 - including 11 from low cost airline Ryanair, 10 of which launch next month and 1 launches in March.
